About Us

The Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public Schools is a suburb of the City of Detroit.  According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.76 square miles and the 2017 population (estimate) of City of Melvindale was 10,322 with 24.7% of the population under the age of 18.
 
There are many educational, social, and economic challenges facing Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public Schools.  The District will provide a learning community focusing on hands on academics, integrating the use of technology-enriched learning which will enable students to achieve marketable skills. Approximately 3,112 students attend its one early elementary school, one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. There are 152 certified instructional staff members, 112 support staff, 9 administrators, and 4 central office administrators. The average percentage of students eligible for the free and reduced lunch program is 85.1%. Recent data indicates our student population has increased in terms of cultural diversity in the past seven years.  The student population consist of 0.3% American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.6% Asian, 8.5% African-American, 26.2% Hispanic, and 64.4% Caucasian (this figure includes a large population of Middle-Eastern students).
