Melvindale Early College

The Melvindale Early College is an exciting and effective way for students to earn college credits while still in high school. Through this innovative program, students will be able to save both time and money as they pursue a college credential. In order to complete the coursework required for this program, students will commit to spending three years in the Melvindale Early College, grades 11, 12, and 13.

Early Middle College is structured so students can gradually increase their exposure to college courses throughout their high school experience. New 11th grade students will be enrolled in a MHS College and Career Prep course, which gives students a Pass/Fail grade and a safe place to get support as they navigate as a new college student. This course is in addition to their two college courses each semester.  

Students will take a combination of high school and college courses during grades 11 and 12, and also one to two summer college courses. By the time they reach the fifth year of high school, they will be a full-time college student and all their coursework will be completed on-site at Wayne County Community College. The fifth year includes one high school graduation requirement - a fifth year math related course taken at WCCC that is transferred back to the high school.

Students in the program will receive support services to assist them in their transition from high school to college. Students will also work closely with me who will serve as a “success coach” as they progress through the program. In addition, students will still have access to their traditional high school support system, as well as student support services available through Wayne County Community College.

2. Sign the Melvindale Early College Parent/Student Contract 
3. Send the Melvindale Early College Recommendation Form to two teachers of your choice (9th or 10th grade teachers)
