Parent/Guardian Information
The Melvindale Early College is a unique educational option that provides students the opportunity to graduate with a high school diploma and complete the Michigan Transfer Agreement and/or a Wayne County Community College associate degree and/or certificate. This program is exclusively designed to prepare students for postâsecondary education.
Parent/Guardian Expectations
Studies indicate that students succeed best when the students, parents/guardians, and schools work together. Parents/guardians of those students selected to enroll in the Melvindale Early College should be fully prepared to:
- I will support my child’s daily attendance and notify the school in the event of an absence.
- I will provide time each day for my child to study in a quiet environment.
- I will work with my student to help him/her develop a sound educational plan for his/her future.
- I will regularly review grades, report cards and academic progress with my child with both the high school and college.
- I will attend and participate in parent/teacher conferences at Melvindale High School.
- I understand that acceptance into the MEC requires a commitment through my student’s 13th year of schooling.
- I understand that a high school completion requirement of a math class or a math related course (identified) must be taken during the 13th year at WCCC.
- I understand that acceptance into the MEC requires a commitment through my student’s 13th year of schooling.
- I will communicate any questions with the Melvindale Early College Director.
As the parent/guardian of a Melvindale student, you are an important partner as your student strives for success.
